Hey friend, that’s okay! Everyone learns about stuff at different times, I’ll see if I can explain this well!
So, gender as it’s understood by many is a binary system; 0 or 1, Male or female.
This reinforces really gross gender roles and expectations that we know are not very accurate. Gender instead, is a spectrum! You can fall anywhere on the spectrum, all the inbetween parts are Genderqueer, Non-binary, or Agender.

So, what this means, is that Male and Female are only two extremes on the spectrum! I personally identify as an Androgyne. Although I have slight Masculine leanings, I ultimately fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. Not quite male, not quite female.
Gender variant people are not necessarily born different, but they are not defined by their genetalia. Many people will confuse Sex and Gender as the same thing, this is not true and many times excludes the existence of Intersex people!

People who Identify with their SAAB (Sex assigned at birth) are Cisgender, people who identify differently with their SAAB are Transgender. Trans people may or may not choose to transition to their identified gender, this is another topic you can explore more HERE. Or, feel free to ask further questions!
Hopefully this has helped your understanding a little bit! If you have more questions please feel free to ask! For your convenience, I have hyperlinked all of the terms you may be unfamiliar with, I suggest taking some time to do your own research!
